12 World Class Museums You Can Visit Online

  • Audience:  Teachers, Students, Parents
  • Access Code:  Free
  • Description:   Visit museums around the world from the comfort of your home! This site lists 12 of the world's most well-known museums with a description of what it offers and hyperlinks that take you to a virtual view. Each museum formats its interactive virtual tools in different ways. Now that students need to be well-versed in multi-modal texts, graphic features, and digital texts, this site is a perfect way to hit those standards. For younger students, parents can read to the information about the objects or displays in each museum while the students' curiosities are spurred by the miraculous images. Some features in most of the museums will play an audio of the text, so students can enjoy it even when parents or teachers may not be available. The pictures and information can be used to inspire students to ask questions, explore new content and disciplines, see different things around the world, and practice reading, writing, listening, and hopefully engaging in conversations with their families.

*  Some of the content may be too difficult for younger students to understand. Find a specific museum you want your student to explore and share that link with them, rather than leaving them free to wonder through each one.
